If this reports a bad status, the module may fail to boot at all from this bank regardless of what kernel version is present, since U-Boot has to run successfully before the kernel is ever loaded. For example, a corrupted status here would explain a module that fails to boot even after a kernel reported healthy, because the failure is happening one stage earlier than the kernel.
