cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetAddrType

Module: CIENA-CES-IP-INTERFACE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-IP-INTERFACE-MIB::cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetAddrType

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.1.8.1.1.5.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: InetAddressType

Access: read-only

Description: This OID specifies the Inet address type of the OIDs cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetAddr and cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetAddrPrefixLength. When representing: ipv4 : cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetNotifAddr should be compliant with InetAddressIPv4 from RFC 4001 ipv6 : cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetNotifAddr should be compliant with InetAddressIPv6 from RFC 4001

What is cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetAddrType?

This specifies whether the address reported by cienaCesIpDataInterfaceInetAddr, and the prefix length alongside it, should be interpreted as an IPv4 or IPv6 address, per RFC 4001 conventions. An admin polling this table via automated tooling needs to check this type field first, since parsing the InetAddr value incorrectly, treating an IPv6 address as IPv4-length bytes for example, would produce garbage results. A value of ipv6(2) tells the polling tool to interpret the accompanying address as a 16-byte IPv6 address rather than a 4-byte IPv4 one.
