This object reports the Health Manager's verdict on the switch module's connection to the switch fabric, distinct from the general per-slot FabricHealthState object elsewhere in the chassis. An admin treats a degraded SMFabricHealthState as pointing specifically at the switch module's own fabric-facing hardware, useful for isolating a fault to the SM card rather than to a line card on the other end of a fabric-crossing flow. For example, a critical SMFabricHealthState occurring while individual line cards' own FabricHealthState objects still read normal would point troubleshooting at the switch module itself.
