What Is CHECKPOINT-GAIA-TRAP-MIB?

CHECKPOINT-GAIA-TRAP-MIB defines the SNMP trap/notification catalog for Check Point's Gaia operating system, the underlying OS used on Check Point security gateways and management servers. Rather than exposing polled counters or tables, it enumerates event-driven notifications the device can emit, covering categories such as security policy changes and system fault/alarm conditions. In monitoring terms it is used less for continuous hardware polling and more for real-time fault detection—an NMS configured as a trap receiver learns about policy pushes and critical system faults (e.g., hardware or process failures) as they happen rather than by periodic polling. It is a vendor extension built on the standard SNMPv2 NOTIFICATION-TYPE framework and is typically deployed alongside Check Point's Gaia system-status MIBs that provide the polled counterparts (CPU, memory, disk) to these fault traps. It is used in perimeter/security-gateway deployments where Check Point Gaia appliances need to alert a central SIEM or NMS about security-relevant and operational events. Engineers can download the CHECKPOINT-GAIA-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CHECKPOINT-GAIA-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • security policy change events
  • system fault/alarm events

Supported Devices

  • Check Point Gaia security gateways/appliances
  • Check Point Gaia management servers

Monitoring Examples

With no sample runtime objects defined, CHECKPOINT-GAIA-TRAP-MIB is a pure notification module—an admin configures the device to send its traps to an SNMP trap receiver rather than polling it directly. A typical use is alerting on a security-policy-change trap when a new firewall policy is installed, or an alarm trap when a critical system fault occurs on the Gaia gateway. Because it defines no data tables, there is no periodic polling scenario beyond trap reception and correlation.
