Organization: Check Point

Last Updated: 2013-12-26

Category: Alarm and Event Management, VPN and Security, Vendor: Check Point

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for Check Point security gateway fault conditions and security event alerts.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CHECKPOINT-TRAP-MIB?

CHECKPOINT-TRAP-MIB is the standard Check Point Software Technologies proprietary MIB (enterprise OID 2620) defining SNMPv2 trap objects for Check Point Security Gateway/Management appliances, configurable via threshold_config. Its varbind objects cover trap OID/OID-value, message text, severity, and category, alongside dedicated traps for disk-space, RAID volume/disk/disk-flags, network-interface state/unplugged/operational-state, new/concurrent connection rate, byte throughput, accepted-packet rate, CPU-core utilization/interrupts, swap/real memory, temperature, fan speed, voltage, and cluster-member/cluster-block state. As a notification MIB it lets an administrator receive detailed, severity-coded hardware/performance/cluster alerts from a Check Point gateway. It is deployed on Check Point Security Gateway/Management appliances. Engineers can download the CHECKPOINT-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CHECKPOINT-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Check Point Security Gateway/Management appliances

Monitoring Examples

An administrator receives a chkpntRAIDDiskTrap and reads chkpntTrapSeverity to prioritize response to a failing RAID disk on a Check Point Security Gateway.

What Can Be Monitored

  • hardware, performance, and cluster-state alarm notifications
