What Is BROADCOM-REF-MIB?
BROADCOM-REF-MIB is a reference registration MIB defining OID arcs for Broadcom's semiconductor chip product families, providing a namespace under which chip-specific or reference-design MIB modules (for switching/networking silicon) register their object definitions. It contains no operational monitoring objects itself -- it is a structural MIB that organizes the OID space for downstream, chip-family-specific MIBs which would expose things like port/PHY status, temperature, and switching-fabric counters on devices built around Broadcom silicon. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is therefore indirect: it underlies the registration of chip-level diagnostic and status MIBs used by OEMs building network equipment on Broadcom chipsets. As a reference/registration module it depends only on the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprise-numbering framework rather than on other functional MIBs. It is typically encountered inside OEM network switch/router MIB suites where the OEM has built its product around Broadcom switching or networking silicon, and an engineer tracing a specific BROADCOM-REF-MIB OID back to its source will usually find it referenced from within that OEM's chip-specific MIB rather than defined as a standalone leaf object.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BROADCOM-REF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadcom Tomahawk 6 (2025) — 102.4 Tb/s Ethernet switch ASIC used in current AI/cloud data-center switches
- Broadcom Trident 5-X12 — 16 Tb/s top-of-rack switching silicon with on-chip neural-network inference
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were extracted for this module, consistent with it being a pure OID-registration reference MIB rather than a source of pollable data. An admin would not query BROADCOM-REF-MIB directly; instead, OEM device MIBs built on Broadcom chipsets reference OID arcs registered here so that chip-family-specific status objects (e.g. PHY link state, switch fabric counters) resolve correctly. Its presence in a compiled MIB tree signals that the managed device is built around Broadcom networking silicon.
