Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, Vendor: Foundry/Brocade

Description: Defines entity OID registrations for Brocade hardware components and product identifiers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BROCADE-ENTITY-OID-MIB?

BROCADE-ENTITY-OID-MIB is a Brocade-specific MIB that defines a static registration tree of object identifiers identifying physical hardware component types — chassis and modules — across Brocade product lines including NetIron/CES/CER platforms. It contains no runtime data objects; it exists purely to supply OID constants referenced as the value of entPhysicalVendorType within the standard IETF Entity MIB's entPhysicalTable (RFC 4133). Because it carries no counters, gauges, or traps, it is not itself used to monitor hardware or software health — instead it enables an NMS walking entPhysicalTable to determine precisely which Brocade chassis or component model is installed. It is explicitly and entirely dependent on the IETF ENTITY-MIB standard for its meaning; on its own it has no independent management function. It's deployed alongside a standard Entity MIB agent implementation on Brocade/Ruckus ICX, NetIron, and related Layer 2/3 switching and routing platforms, where administrators consult the BROCADE-ENTITY-OID-MIB OID list to map vendor-type values to specific chassis models.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BROCADE-ENTITY-OID-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Brocade/Ruckus NetIron, CES/CER, and related switch/router chassis

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/registration-only module with no runtime-monitorable data objects. For example, brcdEntityOIDChassisNetIronCes2000Family is simply a static OID constant that an agent returns as the value of entPhysicalVendorType when an NMS walks the standard entPhysicalTable, allowing the poller to identify the installed chassis as a NetIron CES 2000 family device — there is no separate polling or alerting scenario beyond this identification role.
