What Is BRCM-CABLEDATA-FACTORY-MIB?
BRCM-CABLEDATA-FACTORY-MIB is a Broadcom vendor MIB used in the factory provisioning/manufacturing process of Broadcom-based cable data chipsets (found in cable modems and related DOCSIS devices), covering settings that are written and calibrated at time of manufacture. It exposes objects to commit factory settings, a scratch-pad area, a serial-number table, and a MAC-address table, each keyed by an index and holding the assigned serial number/description or MAC address/type for the unit. Because it is a factory-provisioning MIB, its "monitoring" role is really about confirming device identity/manufacturing data - serial number and MAC address - which downstream inventory and provisioning systems use to verify a unit's identity rather than tracking runtime hardware health like temperature or CPU load. It sits within Broadcom's private enterprise MIB tree and is generally used alongside DOCSIS cable-modem MIBs (e.g., DOCS-CABLE-DEVICE-MIB) during manufacturing test rather than field operation. It is typically used at the factory/manufacturing test-bench stage for Broadcom-chipset-based cable modems and gateways, not in normal field deployment monitoring. Engineers can download the BRCM-CABLEDATA-FACTORY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BRCM-CABLEDATA-FACTORY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadcom-chipset-based cable modem/DOCSIS device (factory test)
Monitoring Examples
Reading cdFactSerialNumberTable, keyed by cdSerialNumIndex, returns the cdSerialNumber and cdSerialNumDescr burned into a given unit during manufacturing test, used to confirm the correct serial number was programmed. Similarly, cdFactMacAddressTable returns cdMacAddress and cdMacAddrType per cdMacAddrIndex, letting factory test software verify the assigned MAC address before the unit ships. cdFactCommitSettings would be invoked to persist these factory-programmed values, and cdFactScratchPad provides temporary storage during the provisioning sequence.
What Can Be Monitored
- programmed serial number
- programmed MAC address
- factory settings commit status
