Description: Reports hardware environmental sensor readings (temperature, fans, power) on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BLUECOAT-SG-SENSOR-MIB?

BLUECOAT-SG-SENSOR-MIB is a Blue Coat Systems (now Symantec/Broadcom) MIB for the SG series web proxy/secure gateway appliances, dedicated to hardware environmental sensor reporting. It exposes a generic sensor table covering multiple sensor types -- temperature, fan speed, voltage/power -- along with per-sensor status, measurement scale, units, and trap-enablement flags. This is squarely a hardware health-monitoring MIB: it is used to track temperature, fan, and power-supply sensor readings and their severity codes, with traps that alert on out-of-range conditions, making it a primary tool for catching environmental faults before they cause an appliance outage. It is a self-contained vendor MIB that does not appear to depend heavily on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2 conventions, though it complements Blue Coat's broader SG appliance MIB suite. It is deployed on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances in enterprise network/security infrastructure to give operators real-time hardware health visibility via polling or trap-based alerting. Engineers can download the BLUECOAT-SG-SENSOR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-SG-SENSOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Blue Coat SG series proxy/secure web gateway appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll deviceSensorValueTable/deviceSensorValueEntry, walking deviceSensorName and deviceSensorValue (scaled per deviceSensorScale and deviceSensorUnits) to read current temperature or fan-speed readings per deviceSensorIndex. The deviceSensorStatus and deviceSensorCode fields flag whether a sensor is normal, warning, or critical, and with deviceSensorTrapEnabled set, a rising temperature reading combined with a status change to critical would trigger a notification indicating the appliance is overheating.

What Can Be Monitored

  • temperature sensor readings
  • fan sensor readings
  • power/voltage sensor readings
  • sensor status/severity code
  • sensor threshold trap enablement
