What Is BLUECOAT-MIB?

BLUECOAT-MIB is the root enterprise MIB for Blue Coat Systems, a web-security/proxy appliance vendor now part of Symantec/Broadcom, establishing the top-level OID tree still registered under Blue Coat's former corporate name, CacheFlow. It defines primary subtrees such as products, device, director, av (antivirus), and cas, under which Blue Coat's functional MIB modules register. While largely a registration/namespace module, its named subtrees hint at the categories of data exposed by dependent modules: device-level status, centralized management (director) status, and antivirus (av) and content-analysis (cas) service status. Hardware and software status monitoring -- uptime, CPU/memory load, disk, and process health of Blue Coat ProxySG or Content Analysis appliances -- is carried out through MIBs registered under these subtrees rather than by this root module itself. It is deployed in Blue Coat/Symantec secure web gateway (ProxySG) and Content Analysis appliance environments within enterprise network security infrastructure, and true BLUECOAT-MIB SNMP monitoring of appliance health takes place in the product-specific modules registered under its device and director subtrees, not in this root module.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Blue Coat (Symantec) ProxySG secure web gateway appliances
  • Blue Coat Content Analysis System (CAS) appliances
  • Blue Coat Director management appliances

Monitoring Examples

The sample objects products, device, director, av, and cas are OID-tree registration nodes rather than pollable leaves; an admin uses them to locate the specific Blue Coat product MIB, for example the device subtree for a ProxySG appliance's health objects, or av for antivirus-scanning status, rather than reading data from BLUECOAT-MIB itself. blueCoatMgmt anchors the overall management-object hierarchy referenced by those product-specific MIBs. No concrete counter-level monitoring example is offered since this module carries no runtime data of its own.
