Description: Monitors bandwidth and connection usage statistics by service and user on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BLUECOAT-SG-USAGE-MIB?
BLUECOAT-SG-USAGE-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from Blue Coat Systems (now part of Symantec/Broadcom) for their SG-series secure web proxy appliances, focused on resource usage monitoring. It exposes a generic device usage table that reports named resource usage percentages, high-water marks, and status/timing information, plus a notification group for usage threshold events. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on device/software resource health: this pattern is typically used to expose things like CPU load, memory utilization, disk usage, or connection/bandwidth usage as named entries in a single table, with trap-enable flags so operators are alerted proactively when usage crosses a configured high-water threshold. No explicit dependency on other standard MIBs is indicated beyond Blue Coat's own enterprise conventions. It is deployed on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances used for secure web gateway/proxy functions in enterprise network perimeters. Engineers can download the BLUECOAT-SG-USAGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-SG-USAGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Blue Coat SG series secure web proxy appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would walk deviceUsageTable/deviceUsageEntry, keyed by deviceUsageIndex, to read each named resource's deviceUsageName alongside its current deviceUsagePercent, configured deviceUsageHigh threshold, and deviceUsageStatus. If deviceUsageTrapEnabled is set and deviceUsagePercent exceeds deviceUsageHigh, the deviceUsageMIBNotifications group fires a notification recorded with deviceUsageTime, alerting operators that a monitored resource (e.g., CPU, memory, or disk on the proxy) has crossed its threshold. This lets admins catch resource exhaustion on the SG appliance before it degrades proxy performance.
What Can Be Monitored
- named resource usage percentage
- usage high-water threshold
- usage status
- usage trap enable state
- time of last usage event
