Description: Monitors disk drive health, usage, and caching storage status on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BLUECOAT-SG-DISK-MIB?

BLUECOAT-SG-DISK-MIB is a Blue Coat MIB for their SG-series secure web proxy/gateway appliances, dedicated specifically to monitoring the health and inventory of the device's internal disk drives. Per its module description it exposes a disk value table (deviceDiskValueTable/Entry) with per-drive index, vendor, product, firmware revision, serial number, block size/count, a trap-enabled flag, an operational status, and a last-change timestamp. Its monitoring purpose is explicitly hardware health: administrators use deviceDiskStatus to detect degraded or failed drives, critical on an appliance that relies on disk-backed content caching, correlate deviceDiskTimeStamp to know when a status last changed, and use notification objects (deviceDiskMIBNotifications) to get proactive alerts on disk failures rather than only discovering them via periodic polling. It's a focused sub-MIB within Blue Coat's broader device-status MIB family (alongside CPU, memory, and other hardware MIBs) and relies on that family's conventions for indexing and trap structure. It's deployed on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances in enterprise perimeter/security deployments where disk failures would degrade web-caching and logging performance. Engineers can download the BLUECOAT-SG-DISK-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-SG-DISK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Blue Coat SG series secure web proxy/gateway appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll deviceDiskStatus for each deviceDiskIndex in deviceDiskValueTable to catch a drive transitioning to a failed or degraded state, cross-referencing deviceDiskVendor/deviceDiskProduct/deviceDiskSerialN to identify the exact physical drive for replacement. A deviceDiskMIBNotifications trap firing with deviceDiskTrapEnabled set would alert operations staff immediately rather than waiting for the next poll cycle. deviceDiskBlockCount and deviceDiskBlockSize can be used to confirm expected capacity is present after a drive swap.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-disk operational status
  • disk vendor/product/serial identification
  • disk firmware revision
  • disk capacity (block size/count)
  • disk failure notifications
