Description: Monitors high-availability failover state and health of Blue Coat SG proxy appliance pairs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BLUECOAT-SG-FAILOVER-MIB?

BLUECOAT-SG-FAILOVER-MIB is a compact Blue Coat vendor MIB dedicated to monitoring the high-availability failover state of a ProxySG appliance participating in a failover pair/group. It primarily exposes a failover status/message object and associated notification objects that fire when the appliance's failover role or health changes. Its core monitoring purpose is hardware/software availability status: detecting when an appliance has failed over from primary to backup role, or when it has lost contact with its failover peer, which is critical since a ProxySG failure without visibility could silently drop all proxied traffic. It is a narrowly scoped vendor extension used alongside the appliance's core system/health MIBs rather than any external standard. Deployment context is any enterprise or service-provider ProxySG deployment configured in an HA/failover pair at the network edge. Engineers can download the BLUECOAT-SG-FAILOVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-SG-FAILOVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Blue Coat ProxySG secure web gateway appliance (HA pair)

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring system would subscribe to bluecoatSgFailoverMIBNotifications and inspect bluecoatSgFailoverMessage whenever a trap fires, to determine whether the appliance transitioned to standby, active, or a fault state. Polling bluecoatSgFailoverValues periodically as a backstop confirms the current failover state even without a trap, catching a missed notification. A state change from active to standby outside of a planned maintenance window would indicate an unplanned failover event requiring investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • failover role/state
  • failover status change notifications
  • peer connectivity/health
  • failover event messages
