Description: Manages WAN optimization segment (client/server-side) configuration on Blue Coat appliances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BLUECOAT-SEGMENT-MIB?

BLUECOAT-SEGMENT-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Blue Coat Systems that manages WAN optimization "segments", the paired client-side and server-side legs of an optimized network path on Blue Coat's WAN acceleration appliances. It exposes configuration-oriented data such as segment identifiers, modes, and interface associations alongside operational state data describing whether each segment is up, down, or bypassed. Its primary monitoring value is software/service status: segmentStatusState reports the live operational state of each WAN-optimization segment, letting administrators detect when a segment has gone down or is bypassing optimized interfaces. It stands largely on its own vendor MIB tree but follows standard SNMPv2 SMI/textual-convention practice for its table and notification definitions. It is deployed in enterprise and service-provider WAN optimization environments where Blue Coat appliances sit at branch and data-center edges to accelerate application traffic, and administrators can download the BLUECOAT-SEGMENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-SEGMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Blue Coat WAN optimization appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll segmentStatusTable/segmentStatusEntry, indexed by segmentStatusIndex, to read segmentStatusIdentifier and segmentStatusState for each configured WAN segment. A segmentStatusState showing "down" alongside a populated segmentStatusDownIfList would reveal that specific optimized interfaces have failed and traffic is being passed unoptimized, while segmentStatusComment can carry a human-readable diagnostic note. This gives ops visibility into which client/server segment pairs (segmentStatusMode) are actively optimizing traffic versus degraded.

What Can Be Monitored

  • WAN segment operational state
  • segment mode (client/server side)
  • interfaces associated with a segment
  • down/bypassed interface lists
  • segment status comments
