Description: Monitors software license status, expiration, and feature enablement on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BLUECOAT-LICENSE-MIB?
BLUECOAT-LICENSE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Blue Coat Systems (now part of Broadcom/Symantec) for its SG series secure web proxy appliances, focused entirely on software licensing state. It exposes a table of licensed applications, features, and components along with their expiration type, expiration date, and current license state. Its primary monitoring value is software status: detecting licenses that are expired, about to expire, or in a degraded state, which directly affects which proxy features (e.g., content filtering, malware scanning) remain functional. It has no apparent dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMPv2 conventions and stands as a self-contained management module. It is deployed on Blue Coat SG proxy appliances in enterprise network security and web-filtering environments. Engineers can download the BLUECOAT-LICENSE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLUECOAT-LICENSE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Blue Coat SG proxy appliances
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll appLicenseStatusTable/appLicenseStatusEntry rows keyed by appLicenseStatusIndex to read appLicenseStatusFeatureName, appLicenseStatusExpireDate, and appLicenseStatusLicenseState for each licensed component. A license state transitioning away from a valid/active value or an appLicenseStatusExpireDate approaching the current date would trigger a renewal alert before a security feature like malware scanning silently stops functioning. The appLicenseMIBNotifications group can also be used to receive proactive trap alerts on license state changes.
What Can Be Monitored
- licensed feature/component names
- license expiration date
- license expiration type
- current license state
- application license coverage
