Description: Monitors 802.11 wireless interface status and station associations via the FreeBSD bsnmpd agent.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BEGEMOT-WIRELESS-MIB?
BEGEMOT-WIRELESS-MIB is another Begemot-family MIB for the FreeBSD bsnmpd agent, specifically covering IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN interfaces. It exposes a wlanInterfaceTable describing each wireless interface's operating mode, BSSID, local MAC address, flags, and administrative/operational status, plus a wlanIfParentTable linking virtual wireless interfaces to their parent physical device. The MIB is used to monitor wireless interface software and configuration status — operating mode, association state, and interface up/down status — and includes notifications (begemotWlanNotifications) for events such as scan completion. It builds on the standard IF-MIB interface model, extending it with 802.11-specific attributes, and is FreeBSD/bsnmpd-specific rather than a general IETF standard. Typical deployment is on FreeBSD systems, embedded routers, or access points using the wlan(4) driver stack with bsnmpd for SNMP management, and administrators can download the BEGEMOT-WIRELESS-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for wireless-interface monitoring.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BEGEMOT-WIRELESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- FreeBSD-based wireless router/access point
- bsnmpd SNMP agent host with 802.11 interfaces
Monitoring Examples
An administrator can poll wlanInterfaceTable/wlanInterfaceEntry, keyed by wlanIfaceIndex, to read wlanIfaceOperatingMode, wlanIfaceBssid, and wlanIfaceState for each configured wireless interface. A wlanIfaceState showing an unexpected down or scanning value, or a wlanIfaceBssid that doesn't match the expected access point, would flag an association problem. The begemotWlanScanning and begemotWlanNotifications objects can also be watched to catch scan events or state transitions in near real time.
What Can Be Monitored
- wireless interface operating mode
- BSSID/association status
- interface administrative and operational state
- scan activity/events
- wireless interface flags
