Description: Manages battery distribution fuse bay (BDFB) DC power distribution, monitoring breaker states and current draw.

What Is BDFB-MIB?

BDFB-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Emerson Energy Systems North America (ESNA) for its mini-BDFB (Battery Distribution Fuse Bay) DC power distribution equipment, used to distribute battery-backed DC power to network and telecom gear. It exposes hardware status data for the power distribution unit itself: circuit breaker/fuse states and current draw per branch circuit or feed. This MIB is squarely a hardware-health monitoring tool — breaker open/closed state and per-circuit current load are the key indicators of an over-current condition or a tripped fuse — rather than a software or performance-counter MIB. As an ESNA proprietary module it has no dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions. It's typically deployed in telecom central offices and data centers where DC-powered fuse bays distribute battery backup power to racks of dependent equipment. Engineers can download the BDFB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BDFB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Emerson/ESNA mini-BDFB DC power distribution unit
  • telecom DC power plant equipment

Monitoring Examples

No sample object or table names were retrievable for this MIB, so a concrete polling example can't be grounded in real identifiers. In general, a BDFB device of this kind would be polled for per-breaker current draw and breaker state, which an operator would use to catch an over-current condition or a tripped fuse before it causes loss of DC power to dependent equipment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • breaker/fuse state (open/closed)
  • current draw per circuit/feed

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using bdfbTotalBusCurrent OID:

Select an Emerson/ESNA mini-BDFB DC power distribution unit as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type bdfbTotalBusCurrent into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the ttotal Bus Current. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
