Description: Monitors operational state and health status of Belden/Hirschmann BCS industrial switch components.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BCS-STATE-MIB?

BCS-STATE-MIB is a Belden/Hirschmann module defining common operational-state objects for units within their BCS industrial networking product line. It exposes a generic set of state objects per unit: administrative state, operational state, usage state, procedural status, alarm status, availability status, control status, and standby status. This is a direct hardware/software health monitor, showing whether a unit is administratively locked or unlocked, operationally enabled, in an alarm/fault condition, or acting as a standby for redundancy - core fault-management data for industrial switches. It follows the ITU-T X.721/OSI systems-management generic state model that is reused across multiple vendors' MIBs. It is deployed on industrial Ethernet switches and related network components used in factory automation, utility, or rail networks. Engineers can download the BCS-STATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BCS-STATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Belden/Hirschmann industrial switches
  • industrial network components

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls unitOperationalState and unitAlarmStatus for a switch module; a unit reporting unitOperationalState as disabled together with a critical unitAlarmStatus and unitAvailabilityStatus of failed signals a hardware fault requiring replacement, while unitStandbyStatus reveals whether a redundant unit is ready to take over service.

What Can Be Monitored

  • administrative state
  • operational state
  • usage state
  • alarm status
  • availability status
  • standby status
