Description: Manages SNMP notification control, filtering, and destination configuration on Avaya/Nortel ERS switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAY-STACK-NOTIFY-CONTROL-MIB?

BAY-STACK-NOTIFY-CONTROL-MIB is an Avaya proprietary MIB for controlling which SNMP notifications are generated and where they are sent on BayStack ERS switches, including per-port notification filtering. It exposes a notify control table with notification type, enabled flag, row status, and a flag for whether port-list-based filtering is enabled. Its monitoring relevance is indirect but important operationally: it governs whether fault and status notifications from the switch actually reach the management station, so a misconfigured or disabled entry here would silently suppress important hardware/software alerts. It builds on the standard SNMP notification framework (SNMPv2-MIB / NOTIFICATION-TYPE), adding Avaya-specific filtering controls on top. It is deployed wherever administrators need fine-grained control over notification delivery on Avaya/Nortel ERS switches, such as suppressing noisy traps from specific ports. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the BAY-STACK-NOTIFY-CONTROL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAY-STACK-NOTIFY-CONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Avaya/Nortel BayStack Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check bsncNotifyControlTable/bsncNotifyControlEntry's bsncNotifyControlEnabled and bsncNotifyControlRowStatus for a given bsncNotifyControlType to confirm a particular notification class is active, and review bsncNotifyControlPortListEnabled to see if port-based filtering is suppressing traps from certain interfaces. If expected alerts aren't arriving at the NMS, this table is the first place to check for an accidentally disabled or filtered notification type.

What Can Be Monitored

  • notification type enabled/disabled state
  • notification row status
  • port-list filtering enabled
  • notification control configuration
