Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: Avaya

Description: Manages Equal-Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) routing configuration and next-hop groups on Avaya/Nortel ERS switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAY-STACK-ECMP-MIB?

BAY-STACK-ECMP-MIB is a Nortel/Avaya proprietary MIB for Equal-Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) routing configuration on BayStack/Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) platforms. It exposes a configuration table for setting the routing protocol used and the maximum number of ECMP paths, along with associated notifications. This is a routing-configuration MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB; its monitoring relevance is confirming ECMP is enabled and correctly bounded, since an unexpectedly low bsEcmpConfigMaxPath could explain suboptimal load balancing or route selection on the switch. It builds on top of standard routing protocol concepts (e.g., OSPF) that ECMP is applied to, rather than defining its own routing logic. It is deployed on Avaya/Nortel ERS switches in networks using multipath routing to balance traffic across redundant equal-cost links. Engineers can download the BAY-STACK-ECMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAY-STACK-ECMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Avaya/Nortel BayStack Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check bsEcmpConfigTable/bsEcmpConfigEntry's bsEcmpConfigRoutingProtocol and bsEcmpConfigMaxPath to confirm ECMP is enabled for the expected protocol with the intended number of paths. If traffic isn't balancing across all expected links, comparing the configured bsEcmpConfigMaxPath against the actual number of equal-cost routes in use would help isolate a configuration mismatch versus a routing topology issue, and bsEcmpNotifications would alert on related state changes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ECMP routing protocol in use
  • maximum ECMP path count
  • ECMP configuration change notifications
