What Is AVICI-SMI?
AVICI-SMI is the Structure of Management Information root module for Avici Systems, establishing the top-level enterprise OID hierarchy under which all Avici-authored vendor-specific MIBs register their managed objects. As a pure SMI/root definition it contains no monitored data objects itself; it exists solely as the organizational anchor for Avici's product MIB family, historically covering Avici's large-scale core routers (the Avici TSR/QSR line of terabit switch routers). Its monitoring relevance is therefore indirect — actual hardware status (chassis, power, interface) and performance data live in the specific Avici product MIBs registered beneath this root, not in this module. Every other Avici product-specific MIB depends on this root for its OID placement in the enterprise tree. It underlies Avici's core routing platforms as deployed by service providers building large IP/MPLS backbone networks, and locating the correct AVICI-SMI OID root is typically the first step when integrating a new Avici TSR/QSR router MIB into third-party network management software.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AVICI-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- enterprise OID root registration for Avici router product MIBs
Supported Devices
- Avici Systems core router (TSR/QSR series) — root OID definition, not device-specific data
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only the top-level Avici enterprise OID node with no pollable leaves; a management tool would use it purely as the tree anchor, with the actual chassis, interface, or performance objects found in the specific Avici product MIB (such as one covering the TSR/QSR router chassis) registered underneath it.
