Description: Manages AT&T Customer Network Management SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) circuit statistics and address screening.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ATT-CNM-SMDS-MIB?

ATT-CNM-SMDS-MIB is an AT&T Customer Network Management MIB for SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service), an early high-speed packet-switched WAN service, giving subscribers visibility into their SMDS circuit statistics and address screening configuration. It exposes circuit-level traffic statistics and address screening/filtering rules that controlled which source addresses were permitted to send data over a given SMDS access line. Its monitoring role centers on service-level traffic and configuration status rather than hardware sensors - letting a customer verify address screening rules are correctly applied and check circuit traffic statistics for anomalies like unauthorized traffic or unexpected volume. It aligns with the SMDS Interest Group's standard MIB definitions for SMDS access, adapted into AT&T's customer network management interface. It was deployed in AT&T's SMDS managed service offerings, a technology now largely obsolete and superseded by Frame Relay/ATM/Ethernet WAN services. Engineers can download the ATT-CNM-SMDS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ATT-CNM-SMDS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • AT&T-provisioned SMDS access circuit equipment

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this MIB; based on its stated purpose, a subscriber would typically check SMDS circuit traffic statistics and address screening table entries to confirm that only authorized source addresses are permitted on the access line, with an anomaly being unexpected traffic volume or a screening rule mismatch indicating misconfigured or unauthorized access.
