Category: ATM

Description: Manages ATM Data Exchange Interface (DXI) mode 1a/1b/2 virtual circuits, encapsulation, and frame statistics per RFC 1695.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ATM-DXI-MIB?

This is an IETF standards-based MIB defining managed objects for the ATM Data Exchange Interface (DXI), a WAN interface type used to connect a router or DSU/CSU to an ATM network using a simplified frame-based protocol in mode 1a, 1b, or 2. It exposes per-interface DXI mode/encapsulation configuration alongside frame and error statistics for the virtual circuits carried over that interface. Its monitoring emphasis is on interface performance and fault data: frame counts and error statistics reveal whether a DXI link is passing traffic cleanly or experiencing framing/encapsulation problems, which is the software/protocol-layer equivalent of hardware health for this interface type. It extends the standard Interfaces group (IF-MIB, RFC 2863) since a DXI interface is registered as an interface type within that framework. It is deployed on legacy routers and DSU/CSUs using ATM DXI to connect into ATM backbone networks. Engineers can download the ATM-DXI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ATM-DXI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • router or DSU/CSU with an ATM DXI interface

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this MIB, so specific identifiers can't be cited here. Conceptually, an admin would poll per-interface DXI mode (1a/1b/2) and encapsulation configuration alongside per-virtual-circuit frame and error counters, and a rising error-frame count on a given VC would reveal a failing ATM DXI link or a mode/encapsulation mismatch between the router and the ATM network.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM DXI interface mode configuration
  • virtual circuit configuration
  • DXI frame/error statistics
  • encapsulation type
