Category: Network Interfaces, VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Allied Telesis

Description: Manages Uni-Directional Link Detection (UDLD) protocol configuration and unidirectional fault detection on Allied Telesis switch ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AT-UDLD-MIB?

AT-UDLD-MIB is an Allied Telesis private MIB for the Uni-Directional Link Detection (UDLD) protocol, which detects links that appear up at layer one but are only passing traffic in one direction. It would expose per-port UDLD administrative mode, operational/detection state, and neighbor information rather than raw traffic counters. Its role in monitoring is to catch a specific class of hardware/cabling fault - a unidirectional fiber or copper link - that ordinary link-status monitoring cannot see, which is important because such faults can cause spanning-tree loops. It complements Allied Telesis's spanning-tree and link-aggregation MIBs rather than a formal IETF standard. It is typically deployed on fiber uplinks between Allied Telesis switches in campus or data center topologies, where AT-UDLD-MIB SNMP monitoring helps catch unidirectional link faults before they trigger a spanning-tree loop.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AT-UDLD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Allied Telesis managed switch

Monitoring Examples

No concrete object names were supplied for this MIB, so a specific table/object cannot be cited here. Conceptually, an operator would poll a per-port UDLD table for administrative mode and detected neighbor/link state, and would investigate a port reporting a unidirectional condition as a likely miswired or damaged fiber pair.

What Can Be Monitored

  • UDLD admin mode per port
  • unidirectional link detection state
  • neighbor detection status
