Description: Manages IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) clock configuration, port states, and synchronization quality on Allied Telesis devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is AT-PTP-MIB?
AT-PTP-MIB is an Allied Telesis proprietary MIB defining managed objects for the IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) module on their networking devices. PTP is used to achieve sub-microsecond clock synchronization across a network, so this MIB exposes clock configuration (e.g., PTP profile, domain, and mode settings), port states (master/slave/passive roles per PTP port), and synchronization quality metrics such as offset or clock accuracy indicators. This makes it directly a monitoring MIB for a critical piece of device software/hardware status: the accuracy and stability of the device's time synchronization, since PTP faults directly translate into timing errors that can disrupt time-sensitive applications like mobile backhaul or industrial control. It implements the IEEE 1588v2 standard, so its object model is conceptually dependent on that specification even though expressed as a vendor MIB. It is typically deployed in Allied Telesis switches/routers used in mobile backhaul, financial trading, or industrial networks where precise time synchronization between network elements is required. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the AT-PTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AT-PTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Allied Telesis switch/router (IEEE 1588 PTP-capable)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module, so specific table names cannot be cited, but typically an operator would poll per-port PTP state (master/slave/passive) and clock synchronization/offset quality objects to confirm a device's clock remains locked to its grandmaster, investigating a port that unexpectedly reverts to passive or shows a growing offset as a sign of a timing fault.
What Can Be Monitored
- PTP port role/state (unconfirmed, no sample objects available)
- clock synchronization quality/offset (unconfirmed)

Freerun state. Applies to a slave device that is not locked to a master. This is the initial state a slave starts out with when it is not getting any PTP packets from the master, or because of some other input error (erroneous packets, etc). Holdover state. In this state the slave device is locked to a master but communication with the master has been lost or the timestamps in the PTP packets are incorrect. Since the slave was previously locked to the master, it can run in this state, with similar accuracy for some time. If communication with the master is not restored for an extended period (dependent on the clock implementation), the device should move to the FREERUN state. Acquiring state. The slave device is receiving packets from a master and is trying to acquire a lock. Freq_locked state. Slave device is locked to the Master with respect to frequency, but not phase aligned. Phase_aligned state. Locked to the master with respect to frequency and phase. |
