What Is AT-LINKTRAP-MIB?

AT-LINKTRAP-MIB is an Allied Telesis enterprise module dedicated to link-state change notifications on network interfaces. Its data is almost entirely fault/event-oriented: it defines the trap objects and associated variable bindings sent when a port transitions between up and down states. In monitoring terms it is used to detect hardware or cabling faults in near real time -- a flood of link-down traps on a port can indicate a failed transceiver, a pulled cable, or a flapping uplink, effectively serving as an early-warning signal for physical layer problems. It builds on the standard IF-MIB interface index conventions (ifIndex) to identify which interface generated the event, so it is typically deployed alongside RFC1213/IF-MIB support on the same device. It is commonly enabled on Allied Telesis access and distribution switches so that an NMS or syslog/trap receiver can alert operators to port-level connectivity events. Engineers can download the AT-LINKTRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AT-LINKTRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Allied Telesis managed switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would configure a trap receiver to catch the AT link-up/link-down notifications defined in this MIB and correlate them by ifIndex with the standard IF-MIB ifOperStatus and ifDescr objects. Repeated link-down traps on the same port within a short window typically point to a flapping cable or failing SFP module, while a link-down trap with no corresponding link-up afterward suggests a hard failure. Since sample object names were not available for this module, this description is limited to the trap behavior stated in its module description.

What Can Be Monitored

  • link up events
  • link down events
  • affected interface index
  • port flapping frequency
