Category: Alarm and Event Management, Device Management, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages system event logging destinations and severity filters on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBLOG-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBLOG-MIB manages system event logging destinations and severity filters on Ascend (later Lucent/Ascend) remote-access and WAN equipment. It exposes configuration objects for where log messages are sent and which severity levels are captured, controlling the device's internal event/log subsystem. Its role in monitoring is software/event-health oriented: it lets an operator confirm logging is correctly directed to a management station and filtered to the right severity, which is what surfaces underlying hardware or software faults elsewhere on the device, effectively the plumbing behind fault visibility rather than a sensor MIB itself. It is a self-contained vendor logging MIB, conceptually parallel to but independent of standard SNMPv2-MIB/syslog mechanisms. It is deployed on legacy Ascend access servers and routers in dial-up/remote-access and early broadband aggregation networks. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBLOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend remote-access server/router

Monitoring Examples

No specific object names were sampled for this MIB; consistent with its purpose, an operator would poll the configured log-destination and severity-filter objects to confirm critical and error-level events are being forwarded to the management station, and a misconfigured severity filter here would explain why hardware or protocol faults on the device aren't showing up in the log despite the fault actually occurring.

What Can Be Monitored

  • log destination configuration
  • event severity filter level
  • logging subsystem status
