Category: Device Management, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages console and terminal port configuration on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBCONS-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBCONS-MIB is a vendor-private MIB automatically generated by mibgen for Ascend Communications' TAOS-based access equipment, extending the console/terminal-port configuration branch (configuration.69) of ASCEND-MIB. It defines the mibserialInterfaceProfileTable, indexed by shelf/slot/item position, whose entries expose the management terminal port's serialInterfaceProfile-TermRate (bit rate), serialInterfaceProfile-FlowControl (none/xonXoff/hardwareHandshake), serialInterfaceProfile-ConsoleMode (on/off/yCable), serialInterfaceProfile-AutoLogout behavior on DTR loss, and the serialInterfaceProfile-UserProfile bound to the port by default. Because it governs the out-of-band console/serial management interface rather than data-plane traffic, monitoring it is chiefly useful for confirming that console access is configured as expected (correct baud rate, expected default login profile) rather than for detecting hardware faults. It depends on the base ASCEND-MIB configuration tree for its registration and is deployed alongside the rest of the TAOS MIB set on Ascend dial/access concentrators; administrators can download the ASCEND-MIBCONS-MIB file to load its serial-port profile definitions into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBCONS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend Communications access/dial-up equipment (TAOS-based platforms, e.g. MAX/Pipeline series)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls mibserialInterfaceProfileTable (indexed by shelf/slot/item) to verify serialInterfaceProfile-TermRate matches the expected 9600bps console setting and serialInterfaceProfile-ConsoleMode is on(1); an unexpected serialInterfaceProfile-UserProfile value or ConsoleMode showing off(2) would indicate the console port configuration has drifted from the standard access profile.

What Can Be Monitored

  • serial console port bit rate (TermRate)
  • flow control method
  • console mode (on/off/yCable)
  • auto-logout on DTR loss
  • default user profile binding per port
  • profile create/delete action state
