All MIBs › ASCEND-MGSTAT-MIB
Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent
Description: Provides SNMP management agent operational statistics on Ascend access equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ASCEND-MGSTAT-MIB?
ASCEND-MGSTAT-MIB is a vendor MIB from Ascend Communications (later part of Lucent) covering operational statistics of the SNMP management agent itself running on Ascend dial/access equipment (e.g., MAX or TNT series remote access concentrators). Rather than describing customer traffic, it reports on the health and activity of the SNMP agent process, such as request/response counters and error rates. For hardware/software status monitoring, this is a software-health MIB: it reflects whether the management plane of the device is functioning correctly, which is a useful early indicator of an overloaded or misbehaving control processor even before customer-facing services degrade. No module description or sample objects were available for this module, so its scope should be treated as characterized at a general level rather than object-verified. It would have been deployed alongside Ascend's dial access equipment in ISP or enterprise remote-access environments during the dial-up/early broadband era. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MGSTAT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MGSTAT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ascend dial/remote-access concentrator (e.g., MAX/TNT series)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module, so specific object names cannot be cited; based on its stated purpose, a realistic use would be polling SNMP agent request/error counters to detect a management agent under load or dropping requests, which could indicate the device's control processor is stressed even while data-plane traffic continues normally.
What Can Be Monitored
- SNMP agent request counters
- SNMP agent error counters
- agent processing statistics
