What Is ARUBAWIRED-VSF-MIB?

ARUBAWIRED-VSF-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for HPE Aruba CX wired switches, covering Virtual Switching Framework (VSF), Aruba's switch-stacking technology that combines multiple physical switches into one logical switch. It exposes stack-wide topology and operational status alongside per-member details such as role, status, part number, MAC address, and product name. Its monitoring relevance is in hardware and topology status: it reveals whether the overall VSF stack is operating correctly, whether a member switch has gone down or changed role (e.g., losing its commander/standby designation), and identifies each member's hardware identity for inventory purposes. It builds on out-of-band management concepts (arubaWiredVsfOobmMADEnable references Multi-Active Detection) to prevent split-brain stack scenarios. It is deployed in campus and data center access/aggregation layers where multiple Aruba CX switches are stacked via VSF links to act as a single manageable device. Engineers can download the ARUBAWIRED-VSF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARUBAWIRED-VSF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check arubaWiredVsfOperStatus and arubaWiredVsfTopology for overall stack health, then walk arubaWiredVsfMemberTable/Entry indexed by arubaWiredVsfMemberIndex to inspect arubaWiredVsfMemberRole and arubaWiredVsfMemberStatus for each stack member. A member reporting a status other than active/operational, or an unexpected role change (e.g., a standby member becoming isolated), indicates a VSF link failure or split-stack condition requiring immediate attention. arubaWiredVsfMemberPartNumber and arubaWiredVsfMemberMacAddr support hardware inventory and RMA tracking for the affected member.
