Description: ARRIS D5 video platform SFP transceiver inventory, optical power, and status management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARRIS-D5-SFP-MIB?

ARRIS-D5-SFP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for the ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM platform used in cable headend video and DOCSIS delivery equipment. It exposes a hardware inventory of pluggable SFP transceiver modules installed in the chassis, including presence, connector type, and compliance/standard information. Its monitoring value is squarely in hardware status: it lets an administrator confirm whether an expected optical module is present (d5SfpPresent), identify the vendor/product/serial number for asset tracking, and detect a module that has been swapped, removed, or is not a qualified part. It complements standard interface and entity MIBs by supplying detailed physical-layer transceiver identity that those MIBs do not capture. It is used in cable headends and hub sites where field technicians and NMS systems need to verify optical uplink and downlink module inventory across many D5 chassis. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ARRIS-D5-SFP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARRIS-D5-SFP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ)
  • cable headend video/DOCSIS platform

Monitoring Examples

A network operations team would walk d5SfpTable / d5SfpEntry indexed by d5SfpIndex, checking d5SfpPresent to detect an empty slot and d5SfpVendorName, d5SfpProductName, d5SfpRevision, and d5SfpSerialNumber to confirm the installed part matches the approved hardware list. d5SfpManufactureDate and d5SfpCompliance help flag aging or non-compliant optics during a maintenance audit. If d5SfpPresent flips from true to false unexpectedly on a production chassis, this signals a possible module failure or an accidental physical removal.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SFP module presence
  • SFP vendor and product identity
  • SFP serial number
  • SFP hardware revision
  • SFP manufacture date

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using d5SfpConnector OID:

Select an ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ) (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type d5SfpConnector into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the code for connector type from SFP MSA Table 3.3. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value changes unexpectedly, since the connector type should stay constant for a given physical transceiver and a change often means it was swapped or is failing. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
