cvxLocalAuthenticationFailure

Module: APTIS-V2TRAPS-MIB

OID (symbolic): APTIS-V2TRAPS-MIB::cvxLocalAuthenticationFailure

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2637.2.5.1.0.81

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: This trap is generated when a user fails the local authentication process while trying to log into the CVX shell service. Local authentication is performed via a unix-like username/password sequence. The username associated with the login is contained in the variable trapUserName.

A sufficient number of local authentication failures can trigger the trap cvx-local-auth-failure-threshold-exceeded.

For an authentication failure related to the authentication of received SNMP packets, the generic trap authenticationFailure (generic trap # 5) is used.

NOTE: The previously defined enterprise-specific trap called authenticationFailure (specific trap # 15) that used to cover all kinds of authentication failures has been obsoleted and replaced by this trap, trap cvxSessionAuthenticationFailure, and generic trap authenticationFailure (generic trap # 5).

This trap carries a severity of 1 (notice).

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' APTIS-V2TRAPS-MIB::cvxLocalAuthenticationFailure
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.2637.2.5.1.0.81

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:56906->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
  DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (20088906) 2 days, 7:48:09.06
  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: APTIS-V2TRAPS-MIB::cvxLocalAuthenticationFailure
