Category: Optical and WDM, Vendor: Appian

Description: Appian Communications shared trunk resource allocation and bandwidth management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is APPIAN-TRUNK-SHARE-MIB?

APPIAN-TRUNK-SHARE-MIB is part of Appian Communications' common trunking MIB family, covering shared trunk resource allocation across their SONET/TDM access platform. It exposes a shared trunk table with trunk name, identifier, admin status, data protocol, and timeslot allocation list. Its monitoring value centers on trunk admin status as a software/service-availability indicator, plus visibility into which timeslots/bandwidth are allocated, useful for spotting misconfiguration or oversubscription. It is used alongside Appian's module and port MIBs to give a full picture of trunk provisioning. It is deployed on TDM/SONET access nodes offering shared bandwidth trunks to multiple logical services or customers. Engineers can download the APPIAN-TRUNK-SHARE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APPIAN-TRUNK-SHARE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Appian Communications SONET/TDM access node

Monitoring Examples

acTrunkSharedTable/acTrunkSharedEntry, indexed by acTrunkSharedIndex, exposes acTrunkSharedAdminStatus, acTrunkSharedName, and acTrunkSharedTimeslotList; an admin polling this can verify that a shared trunk's administratively-enabled timeslots match the expected provisioning plan and quickly spot a trunk left disabled after maintenance. acTrunkSharedDataProtocol confirms the correct framing/protocol is configured for the shared trunk's traffic.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trunk admin status
  • trunk name/identifier
  • timeslot allocation
  • data protocol configured
