Category: Optical and WDM, Vendor: Appian

Description: Appian Communications proprietary logical port configuration and extended status objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is APPIAN-LPORT-PRIVATE-MIB?

APPIAN-LPORT-PRIVATE-MIB is a proprietary, draft-status module from Appian Communications defining extended logical port configuration and status objects for their SONET access platform, supplementing the public logical port MIB. It exposes a logical port table keyed by node and port index with an operational status field. Its monitoring role is centered on logical port operational status as a software/interface health indicator, though the module is explicitly marked as an internal engineering draft not intended for release. It functions as a private extension tied into Appian's node numbering scheme shared with their other module/port MIBs. It would be deployed internally within Appian SONET ring access multiplexers in metro optical networks for engineering-level diagnostics using the APPIAN-LPORT-PRIVATE-MIB MIB.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APPIAN-LPORT-PRIVATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Appian Communications SONET access node/ring multiplexer

Monitoring Examples

acLportTable/acLportEntry, indexed by acLportNodeId and acLportIndex, exposes acLportOpStatus per logical port; an engineer polling this table across a SONET ring could spot a logical port stuck in a non-operational state that isn't yet reflected in the public-facing MIB, useful for internally diagnosing a customer-reported service issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • logical port operational status
  • logical port index/node association
