Description: Altiga (Cisco VPN 3000) PPP statistics MIB for monitoring PPP connection negotiation and link quality counters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALTIGA-PPP-STATS-MIB?
ALTIGA-PPP-STATS-MIB, from Altiga Networks (later Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator), tracks Point-to-Point Protocol session statistics for remote-access VPN connections that use PPP framing along with Microsoft's MPPC compression and MPPE encryption. It exposes per-session traffic counters (octets and packets sent/received) and status of compression/encryption negotiation. Its monitoring focus is software/session health: verifying that MPPC compression and MPPE encryption successfully negotiated on a given link, and watching for repeated MPPC/MPPE resets, which would indicate a client or link having trouble maintaining a secure, compressed PPP session. It parallels standard PPP-related MIB concepts (RFC 1471 family) conceptually but is implemented as an Altiga-proprietary module. It is deployed on Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrators handling PPP-based dial-up or remote-access VPN sessions. Engineers can download the ALTIGA-PPP-STATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTIGA-PPP-STATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator (formerly Altiga Networks)
Monitoring Examples
alPppStatsTable/alPppStatsEntry, indexed by alPppStatsIfIndex, exposes alPppStatsOctetsSent/alPppStatsOctetsRcvd and alPppStatsPacketsSent/alPppStatsPacketsRcvd to gauge per-session PPP throughput. alPppStatsMppcStatus and alPppStatsMppeStatus show whether compression and encryption negotiated successfully on that session, and a climbing alPppStatsMppcMppeReset counter would reveal a link repeatedly failing to maintain its compressed/encrypted state.
What Can Be Monitored
- PPP octets sent/received per session
- PPP packets sent/received per session
- MPPC compression negotiation status
- MPPE encryption negotiation status
- MPPC/MPPE reset event count
