What Is ALTIGA-GLOBAL-REG?
ALTIGA-GLOBAL-REG is the central registration module for Altiga Networks, a VPN concentrator vendor later acquired by Cisco, and it defines the enterprise OID root and module-identity namespace used by all other Altiga MIB modules for the VPN 3000 series concentrators. It contains no operational data objects itself; its scope is purely structural, providing OID arcs (such as altigaReg and altigaModules) beneath the Cisco enterprise tree so that the vendor's functional MIBs -- covering areas referenced in its acronym list like access control encryption, bandwidth management, firewall, DHCP, and DNS features -- can register consistently. Its practical monitoring value is indirect: it underlies status and configuration reporting for VPN tunnel security, bandwidth management, and firewall/NAT features implemented by the concentrator's other MIB modules. It explicitly depends on and registers beneath the standard Cisco/IANA enterprise OID tree (ciscoMgmt/ciscoExperiment), reflecting the post-acquisition placement of Altiga under Cisco's namespace. It is typically deployed wherever legacy Altiga/Cisco VPN 3000 series concentrators remain in production for remote-access or site-to-site VPN termination, and anyone still supporting such a concentrator will find the ALTIGA-GLOBAL-REG MIB compiled automatically as a dependency whenever the vendor's functional Altiga MIBs are loaded.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTIGA-GLOBAL-REG. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Altiga/Cisco VPN 3000 series concentrator
Monitoring Examples
The sample objects show only structural OID nodes -- altigaRoot, altigaReg, altigaModules -- registered beneath the Cisco enterprise arc (ciscoMgmt, ciscoExperiment), confirming this is a registration-only module with no runtime counters or tables to poll directly. An admin would not query this MIB for values, but would compile it as a prerequisite so that the vendor's functional Altiga MIBs (covering VPN session counts, bandwidth management, and firewall status) resolve their OIDs correctly under altigaModules. Its presence in an NMS's MIB tree is a signal that a legacy Altiga/Cisco VPN 3000 concentrator is being managed.
