Category: VPN and Security, Vendor: Altiga
Description: Altiga (Cisco VPN 3000) FTP statistics MIB for monitoring FTP proxy session counts and data transfer statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALTIGA-FTP-STATS-MIB?
ALTIGA-FTP-STATS-MIB originates from Altiga Networks, whose VPN concentrator product line was acquired by Cisco and became the Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator; this module tracks FTP proxy activity passing through the device. It exposes client-side FTP statistics such as maximum and total concurrent sessions, counts of good/bad control connections, good/bad data connections, good/bad file transfers, ASCII vs. binary transfer counts, and octets transmitted/received, along with global client and server statistics groupings. Its monitoring focus is software/service-level performance and health of the FTP proxy function - session volumes, transfer success/failure rates, and throughput - useful for spotting a rise in bad connections or failed transfers that could indicate a proxy or network problem rather than physical hardware faults. It is a self-contained Altiga/Cisco private-enterprise MIB with no explicit dependency on external protocol MIBs beyond referencing standard FTP concepts. It is typically deployed on Cisco (formerly Altiga) VPN 3000 concentrators terminating remote-access VPN tunnels where FTP traffic is proxied and its performance needs to be tracked. Engineers can download the ALTIGA-FTP-STATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTIGA-FTP-STATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator (formerly Altiga Networks)
Monitoring Examples
Polling alFtpClientStatsTotalSess and alFtpClientStatsMaxSess shows current and peak concurrent FTP session load through the concentrator, useful for capacity planning. Comparing alFtpClientStatsGoodConns against alFtpClientStatsBadConns, or alFtpClientStatsGoodFileXfers against alFtpClientStatsBadFileXfers, reveals a rising failure rate that could point to a misbehaving FTP client or a network path issue. alFtpClientStatsOctetsXmit and alFtpClientStatsOctetsRecv give the total data volume moved via FTP, useful for bandwidth-usage trending.
What Can Be Monitored
- concurrent/peak FTP sessions
- successful vs. failed connections
- successful vs. failed file transfers
- ASCII vs binary transfer counts
- bytes transmitted/received
