Description: H3C MIB for Layer 2 VPN pseudowire edge-to-edge emulation (PWE3) managing Ethernet and other L2 circuits.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB?
H3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from H3C (a major Chinese networking vendor with roots in the former 3Com/Huawei-3Com joint venture) covering Pseudowire Emulation Edge-to-Edge (PWE3) technology, used to carry Layer 2 VPN circuits such as Ethernet over an MPLS/IP core. It exposes configuration and status data for pseudowire virtual circuits (VCs), including VC type, peer address, MTU, and MPLS label bindings, along with a table mapping VCs to router interfaces. In monitoring terms this MIB is used chiefly for software/service status — verifying that a pseudowire's operational state, label assignments, and peer connectivity are healthy — rather than physical hardware health, and it emits traps when a VC's state changes. It builds on and depends on standard MPLS/PWE3 concepts (labels, LSRs), complementing the standard PW-STD-MIB and related MPLS MIBs used elsewhere in the network. It's typically deployed on H3C provider-edge routers and switches that terminate L2VPN pseudowires in service-provider or enterprise WAN environments. Engineers can download the H3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C routers
- H3C Ethernet/MPLS switches (PE devices)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll h3cPwVcTable/h3cPwVcEntry, indexed by h3cPwVcIndex, to check each pseudowire's h3cPwVcType, h3cPwVcPeerAddr, and h3cPwVcMtu, confirming the MTU matches on both ends of the circuit. Watching h3cPwVcInboundLabel and h3cPwVcOutboundLabel reveals whether MPLS labels have been properly negotiated; a value stuck at an invalid/unassigned label indicates the PW has failed to come up. Enabling h3cPwVcTrapOpen lets the device send traps (via h3cL2VpnPwe3Notifications) so a NOC is alerted immediately when a pseudowire's binding to h3cPwVcIfIndex is lost, rather than waiting for a poll cycle.
What Can Be Monitored
- pseudowire VC type
- peer IP address
- VC MTU
- inbound/outbound MPLS labels
- VC-to-interface binding
- PWE3 VC state change traps
