Category: Vendor: Alteon

Description: Alteon trap MIB defining SNMP notification OIDs for system events, link state changes, and failure alarms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALTEON-TRAP-MIB?

ALTEON-TRAP-MIB is a private vendor MIB from Alteon (later Nortel, now part of Radware) defining SNMP trap/notification OIDs for its application switches and load balancers. Unlike a data MIB, it carries no polled tables; it is purely a set of notification identifiers covering system events, link state changes, and failure alarms. Its monitoring role is therefore event-driven rather than counter-based: it lets a management station detect hardware and software problems in near real time, such as a link going down or a system-level failure condition being raised, as soon as they occur. It is built on the standard SNMPv2 notification (trap) mechanism rather than depending on another data MIB. It is deployed on Alteon/Radware Layer 4-7 application switches and load balancers in data center environments, where it is registered with an NMS trap receiver alongside the vendor's other Alteon MIBs. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ALTEON-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTEON-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alteon (Radware/Nortel) application switches and load balancers

Monitoring Examples

No sample runtime objects were provided for this MIB because it defines notifications, not polled data; the correct monitoring approach is to configure an NMS/trap receiver for these OIDs rather than to poll them. In practice an operator would watch for a link-state-change trap firing on an uplink port, or a system failure alarm trap firing after an internal fault, and use the trap's varbinds to identify the affected component.

What Can Be Monitored

  • link state change events
  • system failure alarm events
  • general system event notifications
