What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-LswINF-MIB?

A3COM-HUAWEI-LswINF-MIB (module hwLswL2InfMib) is a Huawei/H3C joint-venture enterprise MIB (lswCommon 5, from A3COM-HUAWEI-OID-MIB) that extends the standard IF-MIB ifTable with LAN-switch-specific per-interface objects via the hwifXXTable, which AUGMENTS ifEntry. Its HwIfXXEntry sequence covers physical/aggregation/mirror-port flags (hwifUnBoundPort, hwifISPhyPort, hwifAggregatePort, hwifMirrorPort), VLAN type and multicast/broadcast suppression controls (hwifVLANType, hwifMcastControl, hwifPpsMcastControl, the various hwifUniSuppression/hwifMulSuppression rate-limiting objects), flow control and MAC learning controls, and interface-level payload/error counters (hwifOutPayloadOctets, hwifInPayloadOctets, hwifInErrorPktsRate, hwifInPkts, hwifInNormalPkts, hwifOutPkts). Because it augments ifEntry, every object is indexed by the same ifIndex as the standard IF-MIB, so this MIB is best understood as a Huawei-specific supplement layered directly on top of standard interface monitoring rather than a standalone table. It has been revised extensively since 2001 (through V3.3 in 2011) as H3C/Huawei LAN switch platforms added features like port isolation groups and combo-port support, and it is deployed on H3C/Huawei LAN switch platforms, for which the A3COM-HUAWEI-LswINF-MIB download supplies the object definitions.

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hwifInErrorPktsRate and hwifAggregatePort for a given ifIndex to check whether a port that is supposed to be part of a link aggregation group is seeing an abnormal error rate; a rising hwifInErrorPktsRate on an hwifAggregatePort-true interface would point to a bad cable or transceiver degrading one member of the aggregate.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hwifOutPayloadOctets OID:

Select an H3C/Huawei LAN switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hwifOutPayloadOctets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The actual output octets of the interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
