Organization: H3C Technologies Co., Ltd.
Last Updated: 2005-11-22
Category: IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: H3C/HH3C
Description: Manages IP address assignments, secondary addresses, and address conflict detection on H3C device interfaces.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-IP-ADDRESS-MIB?
A3COM-HUAWEI-IP-ADDRESS-MIB manages IPv4 address assignment on H3C device interfaces, including secondary addresses, and provides a notification mechanism for detecting IP address conflicts. It exposes objects capturing the interface index, the old and new IP addresses involved in a change or conflict event, and the timestamp of first detection. h3cIpAddrNotify traps let an admin be alerted in near-real time to duplicate-IP-address conditions on the network, a common cause of intermittent connectivity issues, effectively monitoring IP-layer software configuration health rather than physical hardware. Dependency: it extends the standard IP-MIB address-table concept with H3C-specific conflict-notification objects not present in the base standard. Deployment is on any H3C router or switch interface where static or DHCP-assigned IPv4 addresses are used and duplicate-address detection is valuable, such as access-layer switches serving many end-user segments. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-IP-ADDRESS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-IP-ADDRESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C/3Com routers and switches
Monitoring Examples
An NMS subscribing to h3cIpAddrNotify traps would receive h3cIpAddrNotifyIfIndex, h3cIpAddrOldIpAddress, and h3cIpAddrNewIpAddress whenever an address conflict is detected on an interface, along with h3cIpAddrFirstTrapTime marking when the conflict was first seen. Correlating repeated traps for the same h3cIpAddrNotifyIfIndex would indicate a persistent duplicate-IP misconfiguration on that VLAN/interface rather than a one-off transient conflict.
What Can Be Monitored
- IP address conflict notifications
- old vs. new IP address on conflict
- interface index of conflicting address
- first-detected conflict timestamp
