Category: ZyXEL QoS and Traffic Management

Description: Manages ZyXEL Two-Rate Three-Color Marker for traffic policing and QoS metering on ingress ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-TRTCM-MIB?

ZYXEL-TRTCM-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB implementing the Two-Rate Three-Color Marker, a QoS traffic-policing mechanism defined in RFC 2698, applied on ingress ports. It exposes trTCM configuration objects such as committed/peak information rates and burst sizes used to classify packets into conforming, exceeding, or violating color markings. Monitoring lets an operator confirm rate/burst parameters match QoS policy and, combined with marking counters, identify ports where traffic is frequently marked as exceeding or violating, a performance/QoS configuration check rather than hardware fault detection. It is a direct implementation of the IETF RFC 2698 trTCM algorithm, layered with ZyXEL-specific per-port configuration. It is deployed on ZyXEL switches enforcing QoS/committed-rate contracts, common in ISP access networks or enterprise networks with SLA-based bandwidth guarantees, making the ZYXEL-TRTCM-MIB MIB a standard reference for confirming those rate-limiting parameters match policy.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-TRTCM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL managed switch

Monitoring Examples

No object/table names were present in the sampled data. Per the module description ("the subtree for Two Rate Three Color Marker"), the module exposes per-port committed/peak rate and burst-size configuration that an administrator checks to confirm QoS policing parameters match the intended SLA and to identify ports with frequent rate violations.

What Can Be Monitored

  • committed information rate
  • peak information rate
  • burst size configuration
  • traffic marking/policing status
