Description: Manages ZyXEL Spanning Tree Protocol IEEE 802.1D for loop prevention and redundant path management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-STP-MIB?

ZYXEL-STP-MIB is a ZyXEL private MIB that manages IEEE 802.1D Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) settings on ZyXEL switches, used to prevent Layer 2 loops and manage redundant path selection. It exposes STP configuration data such as bridge priority, per-port STP state/role, and related timer parameters, mirroring the structure of the standard bridge MIB under ZyXEL's private enterprise tree. For hardware/software status monitoring it is primarily a protocol/software-state MIB: it lets an administrator confirm whether STP is converging correctly, which ports are in forwarding/blocking/discarding state, and whether the expected switch holds the root bridge role, all indicating the health of the switch's loop-prevention logic. It closely parallels (and likely supplements) the standard BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 1493/4188) rather than replacing it. It is deployed on ZyXEL managed switches in small-to-medium enterprise LANs where redundant links require STP for loop prevention. Engineers can download the ZYXEL-STP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-STP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL managed switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were supplied for this MIB, so specific object names cannot be confirmed. In general, an administrator would poll per-port STP state (forwarding/blocking) and root bridge identification to confirm the spanning tree has converged as expected, with a port unexpectedly stuck in blocking state indicating a topology change or misconfigured link cost. Without concrete object names here, a more detailed grounded example cannot be honestly given.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port STP state (forwarding/blocking/discarding)
  • root bridge identification
  • bridge priority
  • STP timers
