Description: Manages ZyXEL bridge control protocol transparency for tunneling L2 protocol PDUs across Ethernet networks.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-BRIDGE-CONTROL-PROTOCOL-TRANSPARENCY-MIB?
ZYXEL-BRIDGE-CONTROL-PROTOCOL-TRANSPARENCY-MIB is a ZyXEL private module configuring Layer 2 Protocol Tunneling (L2PT)/bridge control protocol transparency, which allows Layer 2 control PDUs (such as STP, VTP, or CDP frames) to be tunneled transparently across a provider's Ethernet network to a customer's remote sites. It exposes configuration objects specifying which L2 protocols are tunneled per port/VLAN and whether transparency is enabled. Its monitoring value is mainly configuration-verification: an administrator checks that L2PT is enabled on the correct ports so that customer control-plane protocols traverse the provider network correctly, since a misconfiguration here can silently break customer STP or VLAN trunking across sites. It depends on the underlying bridge/STP MIBs (e.g., BRIDGE-MIB) whose PDUs are being tunneled. It is deployed on ZyXEL switches acting as provider-edge devices in metro Ethernet or multi-tenant network designs where transparent L2 protocol transport is required, and the ZYXEL-BRIDGE-CONTROL-PROTOCOL-TRANSPARENCY-MIB download is available for loading into standard MIB browser tools.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-BRIDGE-CONTROL-PROTOCOL-TRANSPARENCY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL managed switch (provider-edge)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module, so specific object names cannot be cited; conceptually, an administrator would poll the per-port/VLAN L2 protocol tunneling configuration to confirm the expected protocols (e.g., STP BPDUs) are set to be tunneled transparently. Finding transparency disabled on a port that should be tunneling a customer's control protocol would explain unexpected spanning-tree or VLAN behavior at the remote site.
What Can Be Monitored
- L2 protocol tunneling enable status
- tunneled protocol type per port/VLAN
