Description: Manages ZyXEL Unidirectional Link Detection for identifying and disabling unidirectional Ethernet links.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-ZULD-MIB?
This is a ZyXEL vendor-specific MIB implementing ZyXEL Unidirectional Link Detection (ZULD), a feature analogous to Cisco's UDLD that detects Ethernet links which are only passing traffic in one direction due to a wiring or transceiver fault, and can automatically disable the affected port to prevent loops or blackholing. It exposes configuration objects to enable ZULD per port along with status objects reporting whether a link has been detected as unidirectional and whether the port has been shut down as a result. Its monitoring value is fault detection at the physical/link layer: administrators poll ZULD status to catch a failing fiber strand or bad transceiver before it causes a spanning-tree loop or one-way connectivity issue that is otherwise hard to diagnose. It complements standard interface and spanning-tree MIBs, since a ZULD-triggered port shutdown will also be visible as an unexpected ifOperStatus change in IF-MIB. It is typically deployed by network administrators protecting fiber-linked switch uplinks from unidirectional link faults on ZyXEL switches in campus or metro networks. Engineers can download the ZYXEL-ZULD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-ZULD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls the ZULD status table on a ZyXEL switch and notices a specific uplink port has been flagged and shut down due to unidirectional link detection, prompting a physical inspection of the fiber pair or transceiver on that link. Correlating this event with an unexpected ifOperStatus down in IF-MIB for the same port confirms ZULD, rather than a manual configuration change, caused the outage. No sample objects were present in the source extract, so exact object names cannot be confirmed here.
What Can Be Monitored
- ZULD enable state per port
- unidirectional link detection status
- auto-shutdown state due to ZULD
- affected port identification
