Category: ZyXEL OAM and Monitoring

Description: Manages ZyXEL LLDP 802.1AB neighbor discovery for topology mapping and device capability advertisement.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-LLDP-MIB?

This is a ZyXEL vendor-specific MIB extending IEEE 802.1AB Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) support, used for automatic neighbor discovery on Ethernet networks. It exposes configuration objects controlling LLDP behavior on the device plus discovered-neighbor data such as advertised system name, port identifiers, and device capabilities received from directly connected peers. Its monitoring value is primarily topology visibility and inventory accuracy rather than hardware health: administrators use it to build an accurate map of physical network connections, detect unexpected devices appearing on a port, or confirm that an intended neighbor (e.g., a specific switch or AP) is actually connected where expected. It is a vendor extension of the standard LLDP-MIB (IEEE 802.1AB), adding ZyXEL-specific configuration knobs on top of standard LLDP neighbor tables. It is typically deployed by network administrators performing topology discovery and cable-plant verification on ZyXEL switches in SMB/enterprise LANs, where a ZYXEL-LLDP-MIB download lets them load the module directly into their MIB browser for that verification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-LLDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls the LLDP neighbor table on a ZyXEL switch to confirm that a specific access point is connected to the expected port, comparing the advertised system name and port ID against the network diagram. Discovery of an unexpected or unauthorized device's LLDP advertisement on an access port would flag a rogue connection needing investigation. No sample objects were present in the source extract, so exact object names cannot be confirmed here.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LLDP neighbor system name
  • neighbor port identifier
  • neighbor device capabilities
  • LLDP enable/disable per port
  • topology/connection mapping
