What Is ZYXEL-GS4012F-MIB?

ZYXEL-GS4012F-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB module written specifically for the GS-4012F, a 12-port Gigabit fiber managed switch, placing it in the Ethernet switching/access-network vendor hardware category. It exposes an event-logging subsystem that records operational occurrences on the switch as structured event records rather than raw traffic counters. Each event entry carries a sequence number, event identifier, name, severity, instance type/ID/name, timestamp, free-text description, and a flag indicating whether the event is service-affecting, making the MIB primarily a software/hardware health and fault log rather than a performance-counter MIB. Administrators use it to monitor device status changes such as link flaps, power or environmental faults, and configuration changes, and to receive corresponding SNMP traps in near real time. It builds on the standard SNMPv2 notification framework for its trap definitions and is typically deployed in metro-Ethernet or enterprise access layers where GS-4012F switches provide fiber uplinks to closets or cabinets. Engineers can download the ZYXEL-GS4012F-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-GS4012F-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • event log entries
  • event severity level
  • service-affecting fault flag
  • event timestamp
  • affected port/instance
  • trap notifications

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL GS-4012F Gigabit fiber switch

Monitoring Examples

An NMS polls eventTable/eventEntry and watches eventSeqNum increment; a new row with a high eventSeverity and eventServAffective set to true signals a fault the operator should investigate immediately. The eventSetTime and eventDescription columns give a human-readable timestamp and cause, while eventInstanceType/eventInstanceId/eventInstanceName identify which port or hardware instance triggered it. When trapNotifications fires, the trapInfoObjects varbinds mirror the same event row so the trap payload matches the table entry, letting the same event data flow either by polling or by asynchronous notification.

eventEntry1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1not-accessibleAn entry containing information about an event in the event table.
I32 eventSeqNum1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.1Integer32read-onlyThis variable represents the sequence number of an event. Sequence number is incremented monotonically starting from 0 until it reaches its maximum and wraps around back to 0. Sequence number is incremented when - the state of a normal type fault is set on (the same sequence number is present in the events table as well as in the trap that is sent to notify about the fault on event) - delta event occurs (sequence number present in trap message) - the state of a normal type fault is set off (sequence number present in trap that is sent to notify for clearing).
EVE eventEventId1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.2EventIdNumberread-onlyThis variable represents the event ID which uniquely identifies the event in the entire system.
STR eventName1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.3DisplayStringread-onlyThis variable represents the name of the event, for example 'Ethernet Link Down'
INS eventInstanceType1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.4InstanceTyperead-onlyThis variable represents the type of InstanceId of a particular event in the event table. In brief the instanceType refers to the type of sub-component generating this event in the system, for example switch (5). For more details see the textual conventions section. AFFECTS: eventInstanceId, eventInstanceName
STR eventInstanceId1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.5DisplayStringread-onlyThis variable represents the InstanceId of a particular event in the event current table. In brief the instanceId refers to the sub-component generating this event in the system, for example '1' for port 1. For more details see the textual conventions section. DEPENDS ON: eventInstanceType
STR eventInstanceName1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.6DisplayStringread-onlyThis variable is mainly used to store additional information about the sub-component that is generating an event. For example this field may specify what cooling fan is faulty. DEPENDS ON: eventInstanceType
EVE eventSeverity1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.7EventSeverityread-onlyThis variable dictates the urgency of action when a event occurs. There are four severity levels - Critical, Major, Minor, and Informational. Critical events are those, which require immediate operator intervention to prevent/reduce system down time. Major events require quick attention and Minor events possibly require some attention. Informational events indicate the occurrence of events that may need to be investigated.
UTC eventSetTime1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.20.36.1.1.1.8UtcTimeStampread-onlyThis table contains only normal events and this variable represents the time when the event become active, i.e. the number of seconds since Jan 1, 1970 12:00AM.
