What Is ZYXEL-DHCP-OPTION82-PROFILE-MIB?
ZYXEL-DHCP-OPTION82-PROFILE-MIB is a ZyXEL private module defining DHCP Option 82 (Relay Agent Information) profiles, used to insert switch/port identification into DHCP requests for subscriber identification, security, and policy enforcement in access networks. It exposes configuration objects for defining named Option 82 profiles, including the circuit-ID/remote-ID format and which ports/VLANs a profile is applied to. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration verification: an administrator checks that the correct Option 82 profile is bound to each subscriber-facing port, since an incorrect or missing binding can break DHCP-based subscriber identification or IP address assignment policy enforced upstream. It depends on the standard DHCP relay/snooping mechanisms it augments, effectively extending DHCP relay agent behavior defined in RFC 3046. It is deployed on ZyXEL access switches in broadband or enterprise access networks where DHCP Option 82 is used for subscriber tracking, IP address policy, or security (e.g., preventing DHCP spoofing). Engineers can download the ZYXEL-DHCP-OPTION82-PROFILE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-DHCP-OPTION82-PROFILE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL managed switch (broadband/enterprise access)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module, so specific object names cannot be cited; conceptually, an administrator would poll the configured Option 82 profile-to-port bindings to confirm each subscriber port is tagged with the correct circuit-ID/remote-ID format expected by the upstream DHCP server. A port missing its expected Option 82 profile binding would explain why subscriber IP assignment or policy enforcement is failing for hosts on that port.
What Can Be Monitored
- DHCP Option 82 profile configuration
- profile-to-port/VLAN binding
- circuit-ID/remote-ID format setting
