What Is XYLO-MIB-SMI?

XYLO-MIB-SMI is a structural, definitional MIB from Xylogics, sometimes referenced as the XYLO-MIB-SMI MIB, that establishes the enterprise OID (object identifier) tree under which all other Xylo-branded MIB modules register their object subtrees. It does not itself expose monitorable runtime data; instead it provides the SMI (Structure of Management Information) scaffolding -- naming conventions and OID assignments -- that other Xylogics MIBs (such as XYLO-ANNEX-MIB) build upon. Because it contains no leaf objects of its own, it has no direct bearing on hardware or software health monitoring; its role is purely organizational, ensuring OIDs used by device-specific MIBs do not collide with other vendors' registrations. It is a dependency root for the rest of the Xylogics MIB family rather than a standalone monitoring MIB. It would be loaded alongside functional Xylogics MIBs (e.g., for Remote Annex servers) whenever a management station needs to resolve Xylo enterprise OIDs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLO-MIB-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Xylogics enterprise OID subtree registration
  • namespace anchor for dependent Xylo MIB modules
  • no directly monitorable runtime data (definitional module only)

Supported Devices

  • Xylogics/Bay Networks network devices (generic OID-tree anchor, not a specific product)

Monitoring Examples

A NMS loading Xylogics MIBs would import XYLO-MIB-SMI first to resolve the enterprise OID root under which functional modules like XYLO-ANNEX-MIB register their tables; without it, OID names in dependent MIBs would fail to compile or resolve. There are no pollable counters or status objects defined directly in this module -- it exists solely to anchor the registration hierarchy.

RFC description

Bay Networks/Xylogics MIB defining the enterprise OID base and product identifiers for Bay Networks Remote Annex product line.

Start monitoring Xylogics/Bay Networks network devices, generic OID-tree anchor, not a specific product (no runtime data) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
