Description: Defines DDI FDDI ring management objects for token ring MAC layer statistics and attachment state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is X-DDI-MIB?

The X-DDI-MIB (Northern Telecom's DDI FDDI ring-management MIB) is a vendor-specific MIB for FDDI concentrator devices, covering the technology area of fiber-optic Token Ring-style network attachment and concentrator management. It exposes management-station configuration for the concentrator (its IP address, netmask, broadcast setting), community-based access-control tables, and trap-receiver configuration for forwarding events to management stations. Its monitoring relevance is chiefly device/software configuration status: it lets an operator confirm the concentrator's management IP settings, SNMP community access rules, and trap-receiver destinations are correctly set, which governs whether the device can be reached and will properly notify a management station of ring faults or attachment-state changes. It builds on the base FDDI/Token Ring MAC MIB concepts and relies on standard SNMP community-based access control mechanisms. It was deployed on Northern Telecom FDDI concentrators managing fiber ring attachment in enterprise backbone networks. Engineers can download the X-DDI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in X-DDI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Northern Telecom FDDI concentrator

Monitoring Examples

A network administrator checks concIpAddr and concNetMask to confirm the concentrator's management interface is correctly addressed on the management VLAN, then reviews the concCommunityTable/concCommunityEntry rows to verify which SNMP communities have read or read-write access. They also inspect concTrapReceiverTable entries to confirm the concentrator is configured to send traps (ring faults, attachment state changes) to the correct NMS address, since a misconfigured trap receiver would silently suppress fault notifications.

What Can Be Monitored

  • concentrator management IP configuration
  • SNMP community access control
  • trap receiver destination configuration
  • FDDI ring/attachment state
